Gharana wetland
Gharana wetland is semi-arid wetland located along the border in RS Pura tehsil of Jammu district about 30 kms from Jammu near Gharana village.
It is a wetland Conservation Reserve in the RS pura sector near the International Border was notified in 1981 and is home to more than 170 species.
Diversity of species
Variety of species found here; Bar-headed geese, gadwalls, common teals, purple swamp hens, Indian moorhens, egrets, cormorants and many more.
Season for Migration
During winters,wetland is visited by thousands of birds.(Nov-Feb)
In winters, there were migratory birds in in wetland but due to disturbance by farmers there no. is less
Threats to Wetland
Their existence is threatened because of human and management factors.
Earlier this spot was the the favourite hunting ground for Shikaris but thanks to Wildlife Conservation Act that the hunting stopped.
Conservation Acts
Gharana Wetland Conservation Reserve under Wildlife Protection Act and has designated as Important Bird area.

Avoid non- native and invasive species of plants; Don't pollute; Keep pest and pets under control..!
Their values can be strengthened by incorporating wetland management objectives in regional and local planning schemes by including wetland issues in impact assessment..!!
