A visit to MANDA ZOO
Zoo:- It is an establishment whether stationary or mobile , where captive animals are kept for exhibition to the public and includes circus and rescue centres but does not include an establishment of a licenced dealer in captive animals- CZA.
The initial purpose of zoos was to entertain people but now it's purpose is to conserve wildlife and to provide environmental education.
Apart from saving individual animals, zoos have a role to play in species conservation too through captive breeding.MANDA ZOO has attractive assemblage of many species some are described below briefly:-
Panthera tigris
It is the largest cat species reaching a total body length of upto 3.38 m
It's most recognisable feature is a pattern of dark spot like strs. On reddish orange fur within a lighter underside.
It is indigenous to more densely populated areas on Earth, has caused significant conflicts with humans.
Pavo cristatus
The length of about 3_4 metres.
Peacock is beautiful and colourful which is more characteristic only for the male .
Colour of the tail look differently every time you change the angle of looking because of the reflection of the light.
Tyto alba
Also known as Barn owl (Ulloo).
Length- 32_40 cm
Their life span is as long as 34 years .
Widely distributed everywhere in the world except for the polar and desert regions, Asia ,north of the Himalayas, most of Indonesia , and some Pacific Islands.
Muntiacus
Muntjas , also known as rib - faced deer , Barking deer.
About 18 kg in weight .
Produces bark like sound as an alarm when in danger that's why names barking deer.
Also known as" kakkar."
Native to South and Southeast Asia.
Oryctalagus cuniculus
Also known as rabbits .
It is hervibores.
Can't live off carrots.
Baby rabbit is called a kit, female rabbit is called a doe and male rabbit is called a buck.
These does cute behaviour when happy, known as "Binky".
